A Collaborative Approach

T E A M  W O R K - It is imperative to understand that a 1 hour OT session, will not make the biggest change that could be possible.

And here’s why! 💭

•The child spends majority of the time with the family and at school, so strategies should be continued to be implemented throughout the 7 days of the week, and not just during the 1 hour session of therapy.

•Practicing these strategies throughout the week will mean that your child will reach their goals quicker as they are practicing these skills more often.

OT sensory play to explore sensory systems

Following through with your therapists recommended suggestions will maximise your child’s learning and development.

A collaborative approach will make significant and quick changes. The one hour therapy session a week or fortnight will not.

Skill development and implementation of strategies can be imbedded into the routine.

For example, if you are working on hand strength & fine motor skills, encourage your child to help with the cooking.

Or if you are wanting  to incorporate sensory activities to support regulation, implement animal walks from the front door to the car.
